10 Holiday Books for Kids

10-Holiday-Books-for-Kids

It’s no secret that books are one of my favorite gifts to give. You can never have too many books! While I’ll have a separate gift guide this holiday season of books for men, women and kids, I thought it would be fun to share our top 10 holiday books for kids.

We own five of the 10 books, have read another two and three are on hold at the library for us. Some of these books are geared towards little ones in Lawson and Sybil’s age range (1-4 years), but others would be enjoyable for kids up to 7 or 8 years old.

10 Holiday Books for Kids

Olive, the Other Reindeer is at top of our wish list this year. We just got it from the library yesterday and it’s so cute. The book is about Olive, a dog that thinks she’s the other reindeer. The story makes me laugh, which is always a win when you’re reading it for the 10th time in a day!

The Nutcracker is a fun introduction to the classic tale for little ones. Sybil got it in her stocking last year and we’ve loved reading it year round, including acting it out which is especially hilarious.

The Snowy Day is older than I am! Seriously, it was published in 1962. Amazon Prime has a movie based on The Snowy Day that we watched last year during the holiday season. It’s the story of a little boy’s adventures in the city on a really snowy day. I bought it for Sybil last week  and I swear we’ve already read it 20x.

Bear Stays Up for Christmas might be our #1 favorite holiday book. I like reading the book about a bear and his friends getting ready for Christmas and the kiddos love hearing it. It’s cute and the perfect length for young ones.

The Night Before Christmas is a classic story that’s been retold many times. This version has 4.5 stars with over 4,000 reviews. While the story is the same as you’ve heard before, the artwork is the star.

Pick a Pine Tree is a new to me book about the joy and excitement of Christmas starting with picking out the tree. Each page of this book looks beautiful!

Construction Site on Christmas Night is a new release that came out a few weeks ago. Sequels usually don’t quite live up to my expectations, but this one is so cute. Fans of the original Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site will love Construction Site on Christmas Night. Lawson and I read it at the bookstore last week. He even made me re-read it! It’s definitely on his wish list this year.

The Little Reindeer was on our wish list last year. Don’t tell Lawson, but he’ll find The Little Reindeer in his shoe for St. Nick’s Day (we aren’t religious in our household, but I am going to try to keep this childhood tradition of mine going somehow). The cover alone sold me and the story about a little girl and a lost reindeer is enough to melt my heart!

The Itsy Bitsy Snowman is a great holiday book for little ones. If they love singing the itsy bitsy spider, they will enjoy this book about a friendly snowman. Lawson and Sybil got this last year and still pick it off the shelf. The Itsy Bitsy Snowman would make a great stocking stuffer too!

If You Take a Mouse to the Movies is the holiday version of the popular series. Lawson and Sybil are newly obsessed with all of these books and especially love If You Take a Mouse to the Movies.

What is your favorite holiday book for kids? I’m always looking for new to me titles to add to our wish list!
