Entertainment Center Project

Song-Lyrics

I gifted Jim with this canvas from Etsy of the song lyrics from Phoenix’s Lisztomania earlier this year. I had envisioned hanging it in our entrance, but knew we would have to paint the wall a darker color for it to stand out. Little did I realize that wall connected to another and would mean repainting a significant portion of our condo. So we moved to plan B and hung it in our living/family area. I was itching for a small project and decided painting an accent wall would be perfect. I love the difference paint can make!

EC-Project--Before-&-After

I knew I wanted a darker grey color and immediately began searching Sherwin-Williams, my go-to spot for paint. Not only are their products top notch, but they have a really cool Color Visualizer tool to help find the perfect color. You can search for a color and they’ll suggest options that are a little darker or lighter, as well as complementary colors. I used it when we picked out paint for our master bedroom a couple of years ago and again this time. It was a huge help for both projects. We settled on Thunder Gray, which is a dark grey with brown undertones.

It’s hard to see in the photo above, but we repainted the entertainment center cutouts from a dark brown to Thunder Gray as well. Since it was such a dark color, we started with Harmony Wall Primer. I prefer products that are certified for low chemical emissions and their Harmony line meets that requirement.

Painting the accent wall was a breeze. The entertainment center cutouts were a little more challenging and required some stretching to reach all the corners. We used two coats of Thunder Grey, but still managed to finish all the painting in one day!

Honestly, the most challenging aspect of the project was finding decor for the bottom of the entertainment center. I wanted to add gold accents and finally found the perfect grey and gold vase at Target yesterday! I couldn’t pass up the white pumpkin either. It adds a bit of seasonal flair to the space and pairs with my favorite style books. I absolutely love how it all turned out!
