Weekend Roundup: No. 301

REI Tent

We are back at home after a 15-day road trip. When we realized we had camping reservations two weekends apart, we threw out the (crazy) idea to drive to Arizona between them. I was overwhelmed at the thought of planning – I knew how to plan and pack for camping and a long road trip, but not both at the same time!

As it usually does, it was great. We saw so many parts of Colorado, barely drove on the freeway even though we were in the car for 50+ hours, and spent quality time with family in Arizona. I hope to pass along a sense of adventure to Lawson and Sybil. What better way than a long road trip with visits to 3 national parks, including two they haven’t been to.

We jumped right into summer activities this week. A mix of swim, art, and speech therapy, along with some housekeeping chores at home. After the LEGOs piled up on every playroom surface, we went through each of them to decide which Lawson and Sybil were ready to donate. They did great making hard decisions and we built each of them so the next kid that gets them has the instructions and all the pieces!

One of the girls in our neighborhood came over to play with Lawson and Sybil while I try to catch up on my never-ending to do list. They were so excited! I’d love to make it a weekly occurrence this summer.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted, but I’ve been on a reading spree. In the past few weeks, I’ve read The Soulmate Equation, People We Meet on Vacation, The Four Winds, Before We Were Strangers, and Just Last Night. I’d recommend all of them – they are great summery, beach reads!

Shockingly, I don’t know that I’ve read an Elin Hilderbrand book. So many people I follow love Elin’s books. I found this NYT article on the best Elin Hilderbrand books fun as we get into the summer reading season. I promptly requested 28 Summers from the library.

We have a fun weekend ahead of us with a visit from Jim’s mom (she hasn’t been here since February 2020) along with Father’s Day and the US Open (Lawson and I picked Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa, Jim and Sybil picked Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele). Jim is golfing 3x in 4 days so that’s basically his Father’s Day gift. :)
