Weekend Roundup: No. 265

Feels Like Falling

Well hello, hello. Happy Friday! Happy first day of May! I disappeared for a couple of weeks. Sorry about that. Although I feel like I don’t accomplish much on a daily basis, the days fly by. Writing has been harder for me too. But, I’m back with an update.

Colorado’s stay at home order expired last Sunday. Most cities and counties in metro Denver extended their stay at home orders for another couple of weeks to get more guidance from the state. Since they would have only been able to open for a week, Lawson and Sybil’s preschool officially closed for the rest of their school year. We didn’t plan to send them anyway, but it’s nice to have a final decision one way or the other.

I am very proud of my workout consistency the past few weeks. I’ve been doing a mix of barre3 and outdoor running, which is my ideal scenario. The running gets me outside for cardio and the barre3 helps with strength training and stretching. I usually run 3-4 miles, but even went 7.4 miles on Wednesday!

On Monday, we delivered a couple of “pick me up” bags for Lawson and Sybil’s classmates and their moms as we started week 7 of stay at home. For the moms, I put in a few of my favorite things – lip whip, silk scrunchie, book, HU chocolate bar and Harney & Sons tea bag. The kiddos are getting a Rad & Happy activity book, a few markers (split from this set) and some stickers. They were so appreciative and it made us happy.

Mackenzie of Design Darling did an interview series with her mom last week. Here is part 2. I loved reading about her career path and how she created memories for their family. There’s something so inspiring and comforting in hearing from people that have been through more life experiences.

I’m in charge of our monthly budget again this year (we rotate every few years). After ignoring it for the first two months of 2020, I am now on top of it. Since we’ve been staying at home, we’re definitely spending less money (even if the deliveries keep on comin’). It feels good.

This week the kids and I ventured out with our face masks to pick up fresh bread from Moxie and our favorite ice cream from Sweet Cow. We were gone for 30 minutes tops, but it was fun to have a mission. Since there was ice cream involved, the kids were all in.

I won a giveaway for a copy of Feels Like Falling, the latest book from Kristy Woodson Harvey. I LOVED her Peachtree Bluff series and am extra excited to start Feels Like Falling this weekend.

Have a good weekend friends. Stay safe and healthy!

HIGH POINT:

Last Sunday I was going out for a run when Lawson said he wanted to go with me. We ran 2 miles together! It was one of my most special motherhood moments to date. There’s something about sharing one of the things you love with your children.

LOW POINT:

I’ve been feeling anxious about everything changing again. All things considered, that’s a pretty good low point to have.

FIND OF THE WEEK:

A couple of weeks ago an ad for Alex & Nova face masks came across my Instagram feed. I bought the organic reusable face mask for both Lawson and Sybil (size 4-8 for Lawson, size 2-4 for Sybil). They fit really, really well. Sybil is so small that I worried we wouldn’t find one for her, but lucked out.

There are two downsides – they are made in Korea (I would have preferred to support a USA business) and the instructions say to hand wash. I put them in the washing machine last night and they seem fine.

CURRENTLY READING:

I finished two books recently – Open Book and In Five Years. I really enjoyed both of them. I didn’t want Open Book to end and flew through In Five Years in 2-3 days. If you read them, listen to the related Bad on Paper podcast episodes about both.
